Will gas prices rise?

Will gas prices rise?

One of the key promises with which the "young team" came to power was the reduction of tariffs on LCD services for the population. However, things were not so easy. Especially, judging by the recent meeting of President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Alexei Goncharuk and President of the Office of the President Andrei Bogdan and other officials. The Prime Minister said that it is not possible to reduce tariffs yet because the current legislation will not allow it. He proposed to submit to the Verkhovna Rada a bill that would change the situation. Here are just a few words we never heard from Mr. Goncharuk or other ministers. Allegedly, Ukrainians are immune to price increases for the current winter. But then, apparently, will begin another stage of mass tariff "harassment" of Ukrainians!

But, according to Energy Minister Alexei Orzhel, which he voiced a day after the meeting, from the beginning of May the price of gas for the population will become "market". That's just what this mysterious "market" represents, no one knows! Experts shake hands and draw grim scenarios. Although the government promises additional financial assistance to underprivileged people, this hypothetical amount (in addition to subsidy costs) was not included in the 2020 budget. Therefore, the scheme will remain the same - further tightening of conditions for receiving subsidies, "cutting back" on these costs and the number of subsidies. And let the Ukrainians survive as they want, the main thing - the main "party line" to raise prices for LCD services is observed! This state of affairs clearly indicates the antisocial reality in which citizens must continue to exist somehow.

Unfortunately, today the situation in Ukrainian tops is uncertain - the right hand does not know what the left is doing. President Zelensky promises that tariffs will be reduced by 50% next winter. At the same time, Energy Minister Orzhel is preparing the population for some "market" prices! The important point here is that the President should not (and cannot!) Be responsible for government actions. It is itself obliged to implement everything planned - including specific "tariff" promises. If amendments to the law are needed to reduce prices, they can be made on behalf of the President and adopted in 1-2 days. After all, the ruling party has a parliamentary mono-majority! And it will help to significantly reduce the cost of LCD services, and not next winter - but now. Isn't that what Ukrainians dream for a year now?

Sincerely, Expert Council of USPU
